As there are no Tolkien Reading Day events in my area, that I know of, I have chosen to provide a bit of Tolkien text here for you to enjoy.
If you have ever seen a dragon in a pinch, you will realise that this was only poetical exaggeration applied to any hobbit, even to Old Took’s greatgranduncle Bullroarer, who was so huge (for a hobbit) that he could ride a horse. He charged the ranks of the goblins of Mount Gram in the Battle of the Green Fields, and knocked their king Gol-firnbul’s head clean off with a wooden club. It sailed a hundred yards through the air and went down a rabbit hole, and in this way the battle was won and the game of Golf invented at the same moment.
I began reading The Hobbit this week and will continue enjoying it today.
Interesting question came up on a performers forum I frequent. In short: What is a psychic supposed to be?
I’m building from the view that there is such thing as a psychic. There are entertainers and there are scam artists. Heck, there are even delusional people that have begun to bevelive their own hype.
So, for an entertainer, what is a psychic supposed to be? Is it the old lady with the crystal ball, or the middle aged guy walking through a house feeling for cold spots, or is it the guy with the deck of cards that has been projecting the image of the 3 of Clubs to you all day?
The answer depends on who you are. Your idea of a psychic and my idea of a psychic may be at opposite ends of the spectrum.
The answer I came up with is that the performer needs to decide for himself what a psychic is and how a psychic would act. Then take that personality and apply it as a character the performer wishes to portray. If you believe in yourself the audience will as well. Just don’t fall victim to your own hype.
