Day 11

Posted by Tony on Nov 20, 2009 in Uncategorized

I took the last anti-viral pill today and I took the last steroid pill five days ago.
My shoulder and neck have been in a lot of pain all day.
Talking still isn’t easy. If I don’t make a conscious effort to slow down when I talk people will not understand me.
Supposed to go to the STARFLEET [...]

Sleep, It’s A Good Thing

Posted by Tony on Oct 18, 2009 in SQL, Work

Have I mentioned that I am not a fan of outsourcing? Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning I was up early due to our outsourced contractors 12 timezones away having issues. Wednesday started at 0330, Tuesday started around 0230 and Friday started at 0118.
Friday was the worst day of the three because the issues came in [...]

Victory!

Posted by Tony on Aug 26, 2009 in Uncategorized

Today I was tasked with adding SSIS to three SQL Server 2005 installs.
This should have been a simple process but it wasn’t. The first two went fine but the last one gave me errors. Because these were errors I had not seen before I became a bit frustrated and reached out to one of the [...]

The Promotion

Posted by Tony on Aug 22, 2009 in Uncategorized

My manager resigned and is now an Associate Professor with PJC.  When he announced his resignation three weeks ago I saw an opportunity to move up and began marketing myself to his boss, his boss and his boss. Most of my life I have said “They can’t tell me ‘no’ if I don’t ask.”
On my [...]

End Of The Week

Posted by Tony on Jul 17, 2009 in Uncategorized

It has been a rather calm week and for that I am grateful.

I learned a couple of new things about one of our mainframe applications.
I had the opportunity to work with SSMS 2005 & SSMS 2008 so that I could see the install differences.
I became more familiar with our procurement process.
I learned that attachment size [...]

Challenges

Posted by Tony on Jul 8, 2009 in Uncategorized

It has been a day of challenges for me. Vitrual Machine builds, SSMS installs, Visual Studio installs and a ton of issues that I to figure out as I went this morning.
I really enjoy the challenges though. I love that at the end of the day I can look back and see accomplishments.

Annual Review

Posted by Tony on Jun 30, 2009 in Uncategorized

I received my annual review at work today. I exceeded over all and received a raise.
The part I enjoyed most was when my supervisor told me about his “I beat Tony to work” dance. He said he doesn’t get to do it very often because I am always early. You may remember reading about this [...]

SSMS 2008

Posted by Tony on Jun 25, 2009 in Uncategorized

I have a test box at work with SQL Server 2008 Express on it from December of 2008. What the box does not have is SQL Server Management Studio 2008 Express.
I have setup SQL Server 2008 Express along with SSMS 2008 Express at the same time but I haven’t tried adding SSMS 2008 Express at [...]

Leads

Posted by Tony on Jun 21, 2009 in Uncategorized

I have been given a job lead. It’s for a company with a year-to-year government contract. Due to outsourcing the IT department I am with is downsizing. My boss is aware the lead was given to me.
Do I stay and see what happens or do I pursue the lead and see where it goes?
My worry [...]
